Several medical workers have quit their jobs in the mountainous district of Khanh Son in the central province of Khanh Hoa, because of very poor pay scale.
According to Dr. Dang Van Thuong, director of the Medical Center in Khanh Son District in the central province of Khanh Hoa, since 2008, 20 medical workers have either quit their job or been transferred to other districts. This has resulted in a shortage of medical workers in the district, and needs addressing urgently.
Though the requirement is for 20 full-time medical workers in the district, at present there are only 11, and more need to be recruited.
Dr. Thuong said that medical workers have quit their jobs because their salaries amount to around VND1.8 million to VND3.5 million per month and their negligible allowance is equally insufficient.
Other lowland districts offer better salaries, and most of the medical workers are even willing to repay back the VND25 million (US$1,201) that the district has spent on them for advanced training, so as to avail of better paid jobs elsewhere.
