Conjoined twins discharged from Children Hospital No.2

The Children Hospital No.2 in Ho Chi Minh City announced the conjoined twins were discharged from the hospital after a successful operation to separate them.

The 15 month old twins, Dieu Thi Bao An and Dieu Thi Bao Han, hailing from the southern province of Binh Phuoc had been joined at the anal region and spinal cord before being separated in a 11-hour operation.
The twin girls who were born at the hospital in Binh Phuoc on July 23, 2016 weighed 3.4 kilogram; the baby girl Bao An defects such as innate groin dislocation, stiff right joint and ankle.
The two babies were taken care of in the hospital for one year before the surgery. Surgeons of the Children Hospital in coordination with their counterparts in Cho Ray carried out an operation under Dr. Tran Dong A’s consultation.
Dr. Tran Dong A said that the case is the first conjoined at the anal region and spinal cord during 40 past years and it is the 29th case in the world.
Medical workers said that the two neonates need to be under observation. They now have to take physical therapy. Doctors also guided their parents how to take care of the babies.
As per the plan, the two baby girls must return the hospital after 6-8 weeks for further treatment including reconstructing anus.
