Death of baby not related to vaccine quality: scientific council

Scientific council and medical experts from Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang Town the central province of Khanh Hoa and the Ministry of Health arrived at the conclusion that the baby died after vaccination last week due to premature birth not because of vaccine quality.

The 3 month old baby in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward in Lien Chieu District in the central city of Da Nang was injected Quinvaxem vaccine on June 26 at the ward medical center. According to investigation, medical workers have carried out right procedures as per the Ministry’s guideline. The baby was still healthy after immunization.

However, until 6pm on the same day, he had a fever and his parents wiped him to reduce fever. When his temperature reached 38.5 Celsius degree, he was taken a medicine to reduce fever. But one hour later, he was detected to turn blue and blood bled in nose and mouth, and then he died at the house.

The baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks weighing 1.4 kilogram.

All 3,733 children who have been vaccinated with Quinvaxem in Da Nang City so far are healthy.
