Districts asked to strictly conduct prevention mission to dengue fever

As the dengue fever is plaguing in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Health yesterday convened an urgent meeting with the city’s Preventive Medicine Center (PMC) and hospitals in districts.

PMC reported that in the first 3 months of the year, over 3,895 cases of dengue fever recorded in the city including two deaths. The figure increased by 43 percent compared to the same period last year. In 2014, the city had around 2,727 cases of dengue fever and two fatalities.

Some districts reported to increase cases of dengue fever including district 2, 7, 10, Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh and Binh Tan but health authorities in these district lied down on the disease prevention mission.

Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy of the Department of Health, said that the city is facing some difficulties in preventing the disease such as having a large and roving immigrant community, construction sites, and medical workers’ low skills.

Hence, Mr. Hung ordered the Preventive Medicine Center and the district administrations to strictly carry out the prevention mission, spray chemical to kill mosquitoes and raise awareness to local people of the disease prevention.
