Doctors conduct simultaneous surgeries on pregnant woman

Doctors at the General Hospital in the central province of Khanh Hoa succeeded in saving the lives of a pregnant mother and her unborn child, with two successive operations.

21-year-old Vo Thi Anh Thong, from Ninh Hoa town of Khanh Hoa Province was rushed to the General Hospital in an unconscious state, while she was heavily pregnant with child.

Doctors diagnosed her with a brain blood vessel deformity, which in her state would have been critical for both her and the baby. They therefore decided to conduct two surgeries simultaneously to save both mother and unborn child.

The doctors took three full hours to conduct a caesarean operation on the pregnant mother as well as a corrective surgery for her deformity.

The woman is now stable and undergoing further treatment, after delivering a 2.7 kilogram healthy baby.
