The Hue Medical University Hospital has successfully performed a endoscopic gastrotomy for feeding tube placement. The surgery was performed by Doctor Tran Van Hy of Viet Nam and French Doctor Christophe Clavitere to insert a feeding tube into the stomach of 85-year old patient Nguyen Thi Hao living in Thua Thien-Hue province, middle of Viet Nam.

The patient was sent to the hospital in a coma. Suffering from high blood pressure, she was unable to eat and too weak to have the tube inserted through the nostrils.
Endoscopic gastrotomy is believed to be safer as patients are not required to be anaesthetized. It causes less bleeding and is less prone to medical accidents.
This technique was firstly applied successfully in the Central and Highland regions.
