Experts discuss expanding scope of hospital services

As well as offering medical treatment to patients, hospitals should focus more attention to providing health education, disease prevention and functional rehabilitation services, a WHO official said on Dec. 19.

Lok Ky Wai, deputy representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Vietnam , was speaking at a symposium in the northern province of Hai Duong, organised by the provincial hospital, Hospital E and the WHO in Vietnam , which attracted the participation of the nation’s leading health experts and doctors.

Health promotion should be considered a significant aspect of hospitals’ service quality, along with the safety and effectiveness of the treatment on offer, Lok Ky Wai said.

Participants also discussed the concept of hospital services for better health, recommendations for a ban on smoking in the workplace, health education, non-communicable disease control and other specific topics.
