Five-Kidney Kid Patient Back Home

After a month's treatment in hospital, the child with five kidneys was allowed to leave hospital today. Dr. Tran Ngoc Bich, Head of the Paediatrician Surgery Department of Viet-Duc Hospital, says the patient’s five kidneys are now working well and he has gained weight. The doctor says it was a right decision to keep the patient’s five kidneys.

On February 16, Viet – Đuc Hospital received a child patient who claimed to have a pain in the belly. This 14-year-old patient was Pham Van Thuc, living in Hai Duong. Diagnosis and examination showed that the child had one kidney on the right and four on the left.
Doctors examined his left four kidneys by means of radio-active isotopes and injected medicine to check if the kidneys worked well. After carefully monitoring the kidneys’ function, the doctors decided to keep the four left kidneys.
After a month's treatment, on March 13 the patient was certified to be in good condition, healthy with all the kidneys functioning well.
