Fresh cases of hand-foot-mouth disease in Mekong delta

Since the beginning of 2012, Tra Vinh Province has reported more than 90 fresh cases of hand-foot-mouth disease, announced Dr. Nguyen Van Lo, director of the Department of Preventive Medicine in the province.

Most of the reported cases were widespread in seven of the eight districts of the province, meanwhile last year most of the cases were reported in Cau Ngang District.

Medical workers attribute this to lack of awareness among parents who do not segregate the infected child or take them to hospital in time at the first signs of symptoms of the disease.

Related agencies and concerned parents fret that poor personal hygiene and lack of food safety supervision in kindergartens and densely populated residential quarters will once again trigger the spread of this infectious disease amongst young children.
