The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Hanoi’s Preventive Medicine Center May 7 and 8 discovered that 1 in 3 samples of dog meat from Duong Noi tested positive for cholera.

Slaughter houses in Duong Noi have distributed dog meat all over Hanoi, such as Hang Than, Hoang Mai, Nhat Tan, Xuan Dinh and Co Nhue.

Although these abattoirs have been temporarily suspended, many traders are still selling dog meat.

"Local authorities should closely supervise and prohibit the slaughtering and trading of dog meat within 15 days", Mr. binh said

"Hanoi authorities will also spray Chloramin B to sterilize the commune", Mr. Binh added

Besides Hanoi, eight other provinces in the north have reported cases of cholera.
