The Ho Chi Minh City government has given approval to the Medic Medical Center in District 10 to become a private clinic.

In a guideline to the center October 6, the deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Tai, also ordered the Department of Health (DoH) to settle the issue of property the center had bought using public funds.

Established in 1990 by the DoH, the center used to be part of Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University.

It bought sophisticated equipment as part of efforts to meet the increasing demands of city residents and people from other provinces.

In 2001 it became independent of the university.

In 2005 the city gave the center five hectares of land in the Hi-Tech Medical Zone in Binh Tan District to establish a cancer hospital.
