Health sector provides free medical check-up for fishermen in Central Vietnam

Director of the Department of Health in the central province of Quang Binh Nguyen Duc Cuong yesterday said that the Ministry of Health will provide free examination and treatment for fishermen in four central provinces as per inhabitants’ expectation.

Mr. Cuong said that Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long visited & worked with Quang Binh to catch on inhabitants’ expectation for launching the medical check-up after the mass fish deaths occured last time.

Mr. Long said that young doctors of the Young Physician Association and the departments of health in the central provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien- Hue will conduct gratis health-care check-up for residents in the four provinces in coastal area. He agreed the policy to issue health insurance to fishermen in four provinces.

In addition, the Ministry will conduct test of sea water safety and announce test results as soon as possible and help testing aquatic batches to sell in the market. Mr. Long said that health inspectors will take samples from fish sausage plants and they will be determined to destroy if fish sausage is found to fail requirement. Before, fishermen in coastal regions petitioned to have a comprehensive  medical check-up for thousand inhabitants who had eaten dead fish for fear that they are poisoned.
