Forty-two residents of Kim Thuong Commune in the northern province of Phu Tho tested positive for HIV after 490 people underwent testing in the HIV incident in the province.

HIV positive people in the incident are at different ages; youngest people is a 18-month-old toddlers and oldest is 80 years old.
Vice Director of the Department of Health in Phu Tho Province Dr. Le Quang Tho yesterday said that competent agencies will together educate inhabitants to understand how HIV and AIDS is spread and what they can do to protect themselves.
Next, head of the resident quarters and local administrators will raise people’s awareness of the disease. Importantly, residents in the commune will be advised not to have negative and discriminatory attitudes towards HIV-infected people whereas people living with HIV should observe Law on HIV/AIDS prevention, said Mr. Tho.
He added that infected people each will be counselled.
The Government will guide them how to take anti-retrovirus ARV to have a healthy long life, said Dr. Tho.
Reports said that from February to June, two in Thieng village in Kim Thuong commune died of AIDS at the province’s Tropical Disease Hospital.
