Many people tried to hold their tears back at the touching reunion of the brave mom and her son.
28-year-old Nguyen Thi Lien refused radiation therapy to maintain the fetal development of her child, despite high possibility of death for herself after she was diagnosed with end-stage breast cancer at her fifth month pregnancy.
Lien had not been told about the reunion before.
A few days ago, director of the Hanoi-based National Cancer Hospital Tran Van Thuan and other physicians attended a meeting to assess Lien’s condition before taking her to the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a gift for the heroic mother.
All were moved at the reunion because this is the very first time since she gave birth to Binh An, Lien was finally able to hold him in her arms.
Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien attended the reunion. She gifted and encouraged all medical workers of the infirmary.
She also gave the brave mom a bank account of VND150 million ($6,421), which the hospital medical staffs contributed to.
