Minister Orders Bird Flu Hot Lines Across Nation

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has ordered that a hotline for bird flu information be set up in every village, district and farming area in Viet Nam as a matter of urgency.

Authorities must stay vigilant for any outbreak of the disease in homes and farms in their respective areas

In the instruction dated August 15, Minister Cao Duc Phat, who also heads the Steering Board for Bird Flu Prevention, says district and town people’s committees must tighten their supervision and monitoring of the bird flu situation.

They must stay vigilant for any outbreak of the disease in homes and farms in their respective areas, and enlist the aid of village leaders and ward veterinary officials in undertaking the surveillance.

Poultry farmers must be told to adopt a safety-first policy and be alert for any signs of bird flu, and to warn the local authorities as soon as their suspicions are aroused.

Besides the special telephone numbers, each village and district must publicize the names and addresses of the local people in charge of dealing with the disease.

Indeed, all State organizations and agencies at the local level should do what they can to help.
