The Food Hygiene and Safety Department of the Ministry of Health continues to test products in the market such as jelly made by Long Hai Company and Viet food, yogurt jelly of joint-stock company 329 in Hanoi and fresh milk from Ba Vi Company, but has not found any DEHP chemical substance in any of the products.
Taiwanese company New Choice Foods in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park II in the southern province of Binh Duong is recalling Taro jelly packages from shops and supermarkets across the country by June 6.
The company has withdrawn over 5,700 containers of Taro jelly suspected of containing the toxic substance. The company will continue to recall an additional 1,500 packages.
Nguyen Cong Khan, head of the Food Hygiene and Safety Department, said products containing DBP were not being imported into Vietnam. The food additive DBP was found in a health supplement under the brand name Zoeyen, which is distributed by CPC Biotechnology.
Exposure to the chemical above permitted limits could cause sexual hormone imbalance in both boys and girls.
