Pertussis outbreaks infect many people in northern province

Medical workers have detected 168 infection cases having respiratory disease including 49 people having pertussis in northern province of Cao Bang, said the Department of Health on August 19th.

The Ministry of Health set up a mission team including staffs from the Department of Preventive Medicine, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the National Children Hospital to arrive in the province to supervise and handle the disease.

The Ministry of Health order the local health authority to implement measure against the disease, treating patients as well preventing transmission for medical workers.

Free medication should be given to 352 people ( including patients and their relatives who live under the same roof), the ministry said.

The ministry asked medical workers should instructed patients to isolate them at home and keep an eye on their health condition daily.

Health authority must launch whooping-cough vaccination campaign for all kids from 24 to 48 month old in the locality.
