The woman hailing from the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long suffered the myasthenia gravis in two years. She had drooping eyelids, double vision and breathing with difficulty while her thymus became larger.
Accordingly, surgeons decided to use robotic-assisted thymectomy to remove her thymus.
Dr. Nguyen Viet Dang Quang from the Surgery Department said that the disease is prevalent amongst female than male with female to male ratio is 3:1. Young people often suffer the disease yet some cases are old people.
Surgeons prefer robotic-assisted surgery because it can remove most patients’ thymus while traditional ways just remove 80-90 percent of patients’ thymus.
