Three Children Saved From Adrenal Tumors

The Children Hospital No.1 has just reported its success in saving three children who were diagnosed with adrenal tumors, said Ms. Huynh Thoai Loan, Head of the Department of Endocrine of the Children Hospital No.1.

The three children diagnosed with adrenal tumors

The three patients are respectively 13 years old, 8 years old and 9 months old. All three children have shown similar symptoms including gaining weight (one patient gained 14Kg in only one year), backaches, lying down all the time and losing interest in studies.

After various tests were carried out including ultrasound scans, CT scans and blood tests, the three children were diagnosed with adrenal tumors, an illness that rarely occurs at such young ages.

In the human body, there are two adrenal glands, one of top of each kidney toward the back. Tumors of the adrenal glands are rare. However, when present, they can cause many problems by secreting excesses of certain hormones. Among the symptoms are high blood pressure, osteomalacia, and rapid weight gain. By removing the tumor, the patient’s health can be recovered.

After the surgeries to remove the tumors, the three children’s health conditions considerably improved. One patient even lost 5Kg after one month of treatment.
