Turtle-shell-like mole removed from back of 10 year old girl

Doctors at Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City succeeded in removing a 1kg turtle shell like mole on ten year old Tran Thi Ngoc Thamon Monday after three hour surgery.

The hospital deputy director Dr. Dao Trung Hieu said a little girl has recovered from a surgery.  The tumor weighed 1.05 kilogram with the diameter of 22 centimeters. Luckily, the mole does not affect other organs.

Surgeons took a complex series of skin grafts from her thighs to transplant the skin onto her back.

It is scheduled after 14 days, the little girl’s back will look like a normal person. Dr. Hieu said that this shell-like mole is the rare case and it is the second case in the world. Her family is too difficult to afford a surgery earlier, so the mole developed gradually.
