Nguyen Quy Hung working in Junior High School Cao Quang in Tuyen Hoa District and Nguyen Van Quan in Le Ninh Farm yesterday moved from Quang Binh in dark night to Ha Tinh province’s General Hospital to voluntarily donate their blood to save 70 year old woman.
One day before, on March 3, senior woman Ho Thi Thi in Ha Tinh province’s Thach Ha District was taken to the infirmary because of her fatigue and diarrhea. After examination, tests and scan, she was diagnosed to suffer anemia due to gastric haemorrhage.
Accordingly she was in serious need of a blood transfusion. However, the old woman is Rh-positive types A (the rate of Rh- of types O, A, B, AB in Vietnam is 0.08 percent).
In Ha Tinh, only one people has the rare blood type yet he had gone abroad for working; accordingly the infirmary contacted the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion where confirmed the rare blood is not available.
Subsequently, the infirmary phoned to the rare blood club in the Central to try its luck. Hung and Quan immediately arrived at the hospital in the night to give their blood for saving the old woman.
At present, Ms. Thi was off the danger list in stable condition.
