Viet Nam to Import Bird-flu Vaccine from Russia

More than 10,000 poultry blood samples tested negative for the H5 virus till Friday

Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reached an agreement with Russia to purchase bird-flu vaccine for two vaccination campaigns scheduled for 2006 and 2007 in Viet Nam.

Accordingly, Viet Nam will stockpile around 30 to 50 million doses of bird flu vaccine from Russia as well as a large amount from China.

Viet Nam recently completed an avian flu vaccination of over 133 million poultries (including more than 98 million chickens and 35.2 million ducks) in 2006. Of over 14,000 poultry blood samples selected till Friday, more than 10,000 tested negative for the H5 virus.
