Vietnam takes initiative in preventing Ebola virus disease

The Ministry of Health August 13 provided training of prevention and treatment for patients infected with Ebola virus disease or Ebola hemorrhagic fever to medical workers in the Northern provinces and cities.

There is no available vaccine and medications for the fatal disease, said Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long. He also checked the third -level lab located in the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE).

Dr. Tran Nhu Duong, deputy head of the institute, said that the lab was built under the World Health Organization’s standards with four lab rooms and one for flu sample stockpile. The institute will use one separate room for testing Ebola samples.

On the same day, the Ministry also built a temporary tent in the spot for experiment. Ministry is planning to build more specific tents in Ebola vulnerable places such as border gates.

It is scheduled that on August 15 the Ministry will provide prevention and treatment to medical workers in the Southern region.
