Professor Nguyen Tai Thu, Director of The Central Acupuncture Hospital, was awarded Honor Degree by Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ) state,  north - central Mexico in recognition of his contribution on development of acupuncture in health treatment in this country.

For years Professor Nguyen Tai Thu and Vietnamese doctors have successfully applied acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, acupressure and massage therapy methods to treat drug addicts at Ho Chi Minh Acupuncture Center in UAZ..

Professor Thu began his scientific research by founding Department for Traditional Scientific Research at Viet Nam Traditional Medicine Institute.
- In 1982, Honorable name of Professor was warded by Viet Nam National Medicine Academic Committee

During this time, in addition to study on Oriental Medicine Theory, Professor Thu paid a special attention to the combination of Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine. He spent his time and effort on this issue.

As a result, he set up a new kind of acupuncture, which is called New Acupuncture. It is an Acupuncture Technique of using long and big needles (about 10-30cm in Length, 0.5-1 mm in diameter). These long and big needles can connect acupuncture points and body meridians. The New Acupuncture has proven a more effective treatment, especially, to difficult diseases such as paralyses, stroke, cerebra vascular accident, etc.

Moreover, the nature of the New Acupuncture is pain –killing. And Professor Thu has applied it successfully to use analgesia acupuncture for operation, Surgery with analgesia acupuncture, patient can be conscious, Avoid side-effect caused by anesthetic and it is a less-cost method which is suitable to where lack of modem facilities and doctors.

To take advantage of acupuncture, an efficient, easy-to conduct and less-cost method of treatment, Professor Thu has widen acupuncture nationwide, especially to villages in remote areas. Besides, he has also opened training courses on acupuncture in 35 countries in the world.
