A Vietnamese woman has given birth to her first child at the age of 53 with the help of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) after undergoing fertility treatment for ten years, said director of IVF Center of the Post office Hospital Nguyen Thi Nha.

The pair from Hanoi have been married but childless for ten years, and decided to try IVF at the hospital. The wife gave birth to a healthy girl last time. The husband Manh is 54 year old and the wife said that she was one year younger than her husband and it makes her the country’s oldest mother.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Nha said that currently, the number of infertile or sterile couples is increasing in the Southeast Asian country. As per the Ministry of Health’s statistic, around 7.7 percent of Vietnamese couples are diagnosed as infertile.

Worse, many of them lack information and knowledge of the matter.  However, advanced progress in sterilization and infertility by using IVF has helped making many couples’ dream to have babies become true.
