The four new cases of A/H1N1 are a 19 year old woman, from Dong Nai Province, and three teenagers coming to Vietnam from the US including a 12 year old girl, a 14 year old girl and a 16 year old boy.

The four are being treated at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Children’s Hospital No.1.

The boy arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on flight UA 869 at 10pm on June 5. Relatives who flew with him have been isolated and tested for A/H1N1.

A further nine relatives that the boy had been in contact with have also been isolated.

The HCMC health department asked preventive health centers to track down passengers from flight UA 869 and keep a close eye on them.

The department has also issued news about a 25 year old male student returning from Australia who tested positive for A/H1N1 on June 5.

His flight was MH 750, which transited via Malaysia before arriving at Ho Chi Minh City.

A/H1N1 outbreak danger

The International Health Quarantine Center at Tan Son Nhat Airport June 6 said that it had discovered more than 15 passengers with body temperatures over 38 degrees Celsius.

All of these passengers have been isolated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the  Children’s Hospital No.1 for monitoring.

The city has so far discovered 150 people with high body temperatures and suspected to have A/H1N1. This number has increased day after day, Nguyen Van Chau, director of the HCMC Health Department said.

It is possible that such numbers will rise, as between June 5 and June 6 alone, more than 10,000 people arrived from the US.

Many people coming from the A/H1N1 epidemic areas should be aware of symptoms and report to health agencies if they are concerned, the Health department warned.

The chief of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Nguyen Huy Nga, has announced the danger of a wider A/H1N1 outbreak with the international tourist season approaching.

The Ministry of Health has asked all oversea Vietnamese and tourists coming to Vietnam from epidemic areas, especially people on flights MH 750 and UA 869, to isolate themselves for seven days and inform health agencies of where they are staying.
