VND 100billion scientific projects to produce vaccine signed

Five contracts worth VND100 billion (US$4,684,000) were signed to implement eight scientific projects at a launch of vaccine production program to prevent diseases, by the Ministries of Health and Science-Technology in Hanoi on January 28.

The contracts were signed between the Ministry of Health and Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (Vabiotech); Center For Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals; the Institute of vaccine and Medical Biologicals and Pasteur Vaccine Company in Da Lat Twon in the central highlands province of  Lam Dong.

At the launching ceremony, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that the program was implemented as per Vietnamese Prime Minister's approval, aiming to promote the country’s vaccine market. The program targets to make at least 7 major vaccines to prevent diseases in the national Expanded Program on Immunization to replace imported  vaccines.

Health Minister Kim Tien said the program would mark a new milestone in the country's vaccine production industry, in which vaccines will be produced locally instead of imported – making them national products, as opposed to foreign ones.

Attending the launch, Science and Technology Minister Nguyen Quan highly appreciated the program and praised the scientists in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, and health sector.
