A powerful unseasonal rainstorm on two previous days caused damage to several houses in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City, sending roof sheetings flying into the air onto already submerged streets, causing a traffic gridlock, reported the committee for flood and storm prevention on March 16.
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention in Can Gio District reported on March 16 that in all, 43 houses and two schools had been damaged and four people had been injured in An Thoi Dong Commune.
In some places, roof sheetings had become entangled with electric lines, posing a serious threat to residents in the surrounding areas as well as commuters.
Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City will survey the Ca Chay residential area in An Thoi Dong Commune on March 17 and discuss with members of the People’s Committee in Can Gio District measures to adopt to repair the damage.
The National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Centre on March 16 said that temperatures in the north and central region are rising, while the south will remain much cooler, with rains expected some afternoons and evenings.
In the north, temperatures will warm a bit with 17-18 degrees Celsius at night and 25 degrees Celsius during daytime, from now till the beginning of next week.
Temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast Provinces will hover around 25-36 degrees Celsius.
