Ben Thanh- Suoi Tien metro route to open to traffic by 2020

Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board Mr. Le Nguyen Minh Quang strongly affirmed that Ben Thanh- Suoi Tien metro route must be put into operation by 2020.

Thereby, the underground stations of Ben Thanh, the Opera House and Ba Son Shipyard Station, five flyover bridges across Saigon River, the Rach Chiec Canal, Dien Bien Phu Street and Van Thanh Canal and above the Hanoi Highway have been starting its construction. In particular, the first key’s overpass metro bridge across Saigon River will be finished completely by 2018. 

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board reported that around 75 trees at September 23 Park will be moved or chopped down for the construction of the underground station near Ben Thanh Market

Accordingly, total construction package underground sections will be operated in 2020.

Except for Ben Thanh- Suoi Tien metro route, the metro line No.2   Ben Thanh- Tham Luong will be expected to begin construction soon after its capital source will have been adjusted and approved in 2017.

Earlier, the city approved the policy of building metro line No.2 Ben Thanh-Tham Luong in 2010 with total length of nearly 20 kilometers.

The construction was divided into two phases. The first phase metro line No.2  is planned to run across districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu district with its length of 11, 3 kilometers, including 18 meter underground stretch with length of 9, 3 kilometers.

As earlier plan, the Ben Thanh- Tham Luong metro route will be finished and put into exploitation by 2019.
