A fun run will be held for charity on September 6 at Phu My Bridge, a new bridge linking District 2 with District 7 in Ho Chi Minh City now not yet open to traffic.

The organizers said all money raised from the event will help disadvantaged Vietnamese people.

Starting at 8 am, the 5-kilometer fundraising fun run will coincide with the completion of the bridge, which crosses the Saigon River.

The organizers expect more than 5,000 runners, joggers and walkers to participate. The  participants will start on the bridge’s District 7 approach and then run, jog or walk over, under and around the bridge.

ANZ Bank sponsors the event.

Mr. Phil Crouch, ANZ general manager for retail banking in Vietnam, said, “We are delighted to be the official sponsor of this community event. It is a truly unique event that will give participants a once in a lifetime opportunity to run, jog or walk across the Phu My Bridge before it opens to traffic.”

The Phu My Bridge Corporation, Ho Chi Minh City Transport Department and the bridge’s construction companies, Bilfinger Berger from Germany and Baulderstone from Australia, support the event.

There are various in-kind sponsors who offer prizes. Among them are Piaggio, BMW, Germany’s national airline Lufthansa, Vie Hotels, InterContinental Asiana Saigon, Victoria Hotels & Resorts, California Wow and Giant Bicycles.

Entry is VND50,000  for children or students and VND100,000 for adults.  All proceeds will be donated to charitable organization Loreto Vietnam and the Vietnam Fatherland Front to help disadvantaged people.

Registration is now open and runs until September 5, one day before the event.

Registration is accepted at the outlets: District 1 (ANZ, Gloria Jeans, California Wow, Juice, Bao Minh at 26 Ton That Dam and 80A Huynh Van Banh); District 2 (Mekong Merchant, Boat House); Districts 3 & 7 (Gloria Jeans, ANZ); District 4 (K1 Fitness); District 5 (ANZ, California Wow, Bao Minh at 129 Chi Thanh) and Binh Thanh District (Bao Minh at 92 Nguyen Huu Canh).
