City Dwellers Walk for the Poor

Over 10,000 city dwellers took part in the charity walk “Solidarity for the poor” in front of the Reunification Palace, Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.

In 2005, the walk for the poor attracts many city dwellers.

The walk is part of a campaign to celebrate the Anti-Poverty International Day (Oct 17) and raise funds for the poor and for victims of typhoon Xangsane in central Viet Nam.

It was held by the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee and the Saigon Businesspeople Newspaper.

Over VND2 billion (US$125,000) was contributed to the Fund for the poor by around 50 city-based organizations and enterprises.

On the same day, the HCMC Fatherland Front gave 10 houses to poor families in the suburban districts of Cu Chi and Can Gio.
