City launches helmet exchange program

On April 12, many firms manufacturing helmets joined hands to launch a promotional program to exchange old and unsafe helmets for better quality and safer helmets at subsidized rates, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Big C Supermarket chain kicked off the program ‘Exchange Old Helmets for New’ from April 12 to April 17 in which better quality helmets will be offered for VND40,000-60,000 ($1.92 - $2.88).

Any regular customer of Big C will be entitled to a discount of VND60,000. Besides this, customers can avail of a VND40,000 discount on helmet brand names like Epic and Ace.

A helmet for regular customers of Big C will cost VND99,000 to VND 345,000 ($16.5), and for other customers the cost will be VND119,000 to VND365,000.

Anh Toc Distributors of Andes helmets are offering a discount of upto 20 percent on all Andes products till April 14. Son brand has also announced a free floppy cotton hat with purchase of any helmet, or a discount of 20 percent instead of hat.

Earlier, the National Committee for Traffic Safety had conducted a similar program to exchange poor quality helmets for better and stronger helmets in Hanoi and some other parts of the country.

Hanoians had rushed to exchange their old helmets for better quality helmets and the program had been a great success. Many manufacturers were involved in the program, including well-known brands.
