City Street named after Vo Tran Chi

The People’s Committee of Binh Chanh district of Ho Chi Minh City yesterday held a ceremony to inaugurate the road with new name of  Vo Tran Chi for Trung Luong Expressway.

The ceremony falling on the 90th birthday of the late Secretary of HCMC Party Committee (on May 22, 1927 – 2017) was attended by former Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, former Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang, Head of the Department of Propaganda and Training of the HCMC Party Committee Than Thi Thu, family members of Vo Tran Chi and leaders of departments and agencies of the city and Long An province. 

The approach road has total length of 9.6 kilometers and width of 22.2 meters stretching from the Tan Tao (in Binh Tan district) – Cho Dem junction (in Binh Chanh district) with total investment capital of VND 793 billion.

It was designed four lanes for private motorized vehicles and two lanes for the two- wheeled vehicles with the allowed speed of 80 kilometers an hour. 

It is considered as a major road connecting between Ho Chi Minh City with Long An, and the Mekong Delta provinces.

 Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang reviewed the late leader's admission processes, revolutionary career as well as his contributions to the national liberation, construction and defense via establishment of Tan Thuan export processing zone, the Southern Nha Be - North Binh Chanh, Phu My Hung new urban development …

The event is also to express gratitude and recognition for his great contributions for the city’s development as well. 

Mr. Vo Tran Chi, who was born in May 22, 1927 in Thu Thua district of Long An, had the other names as Vo Van Tao, Vo Thanh and Vo Thanh Quang.

He was elected to Politburo member, HCMC Party Committee Secretary for 1986- 1996. 

He passed away on November 16, 2011.
