City’s major water plant starts supply

Thu Duc Water Plant in Ho Chi Minh City officially started pumping out clean water on May 13, with the first stage’s capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day.

The facility, whose full name is Thu Duc Water B.O.O. Company, is a major water supplier in the southern economic hub. Its total designed capacity is 300,000 cubic meters per day.

Saigon Water Company buys water from the facility to sell for residents in various districts including Thu Duc, Nha Be, 2, 7 and 9.

Construction of the facility started in September 2005. Given the finished first stage, work on other parts keeps going on and overall completion is set for this September.

Thu Duc Water B.O.O. is a joint venture of six stakeholders namely HCM City-based Water and Environment Joint Stock Company (WACO), HCM City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company (CII), Construction Corporation No. 1, HCM City Investment Fund for Urban Development (HIFU), Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corp. (REE), and Thu Duc Housing Company.

The water plant is a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) project with total investment of more than VND1.5 trillion, including VND500 billion from the stakeholders and the rest from loans.
