People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City granted VND1 billion (US$45,830) to the city fund for learning encouragement at the congress of the city’s Association for Learning Encouragement on July 25.
The Central Association for Learning Encouragement of Vietnam also gave VND300 million (US$13,749) to the city’s fund in order to inspire people to study.
Speaking at the congress, Deputy Chairman of City People Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan highly appreciated the association’s contribution during 15 years in providing consultation to leaders, developing learning encouragement movements and multiplying eager-for-learning families and residential blocks and community.
The association has given more than VND16 billion (US$ 733,440) to 2,075 students who come from disadvantaged families to help them overcome the daily difficulties to continue their study.
In addition, the association has launched the money saving movement for learning encouragement that has collected over VND367 billion (US$16,823,280) to raise its fund.
Since 2009, the city has collected over VND769 billion (US$ 35,250,960) to extend the fund.
On the occasion, the President granted the third Labor Medal to the association and Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh, chairman of the city’s Association from 1999 to 2015.
