Enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City are supporting their employees in many ways to encourage them to stay committed to work amid increasing food prices.

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs told the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in a meeting with relevant agencies concerning strikes in the city, to inform enterprises about the daily problems of workers. VCCI should insist on managements to raise the basic salary of workers and share concerns of employees to build a better working relationship.
In response to this call, the management board of the Kollan Garment Company in the Linh Trung Export Processing Zone has decided to increase grants for laborers. The company employees will receive VND200, 000 for lodging instead of VND50, 000 and VND200, 000 for meals. In addition, blue-collar workers will receive VND100, 000 for regular working hours and VND150, 000 as employment allowance.
Other companies have also followed suit. Latek Company in the Linh Trung Export Processing Zone granted VND260, 000 as transportation fee to workers and a daily allowance and meal support of VND200, 000 and VND160, 000 respectively.
Nissei Electric Vietnam Co., Ltd provides free accommodation for laborers. Anyone who does not want to live in the company’s houses will receive VND150, 000. Moreover, workers will receive VND200, 000 for good performance in their work and VND50, 000-VND300, 000 as skill bonus.
The British furniture investor Theodore Alexander, pays its laborers VND1.95 million as minimum basic salary. Its seniority allowance ranges from VND100, 000 for one-year employment and VND150, 000 for four-year employment and VND200, 000 for seven years. Similarly, Free Trend A Company has hiked VND200, 000 as bonus for workers.
