The consumption of ethanol gasoline blend E5 accounts for only 2.8 percent of the total petrol consumption level in Ho Chi Minh City, reported the city Department of Industry and Trade.
Only 10 percent out of 514 filling stations in the city are selling the bio blend.
The number of stations filling gasoline E5 has dropped to 55 now from 58 last yearend when the city launched a distribution program of the new fuel.
According to the department, the reduction is because the blend price has been unattractive to consumers who have been in the long habit of using traditional gasoline.
Besides, some petrol businesses have not built more gasoline E5 filling facilities because they worry that the low consumption will increase inventory level, which might cause loss and affect their revenues.
The HCMC People’s Committee plans to instruct drivers of public vehicles from state own organizations and businesses to fill gasoline E5.
Previously, the Government Office has released a document requiring ministries, local authorities and petrol wholesale businesses to actively attend in propaganda activities to broaden the blend trading network.
By the end of November, at least 50 percent stations under the distribution system of the wholesale businesses must provide the bio fuel in seven provinces and cities.
Under a Government plan, gasoline E5 has been available since December 1 last year in seven provinces and cities including HCMC, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ngai, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Nationwide consumption is expected this yearend.
