Fire hydrants to supply HCMC residents with water

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has just  allowed the Saigon Water Supply Corporation (Sawaco) to take water from fire hydrants for residents’ use in areas without clean water.

The company and Fire Department will be responsible for ensuring there is still enough water to fight fires as the dry season approaches.

The People’s Committee also ordered Sawaco to speed up progress on several projects to reduce water loss in the city.
The steering board for hunger elimination and poverty reduction, Sawaco, and the World Bank are carrying out the projects to help supply fresh water to residents in areas where it is lacking.

Sawaco and the project management board for upgrading the city were also ordered to carry out irrigation projects in the residential quarter of Tan Hoa-Lo Gom in districts 6, 11 and Tan Binh.

They will then decide whether the projects are feasible before asking for funding from the World Bank.
