Le Thai Hy, director of the department said the idea of such a festival arose from the Road Book Festival that has been organized for years by the department.

The first-ever ‘Book Reading Festival’ takes place on April 20 and 21 at the Labor Culture Palace on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street in District 1.

Thousands of books will be available for all to browse and read but not to buy. A covered area will be the main focus at the festival where people can sit comfortably with tables and chairs and go through an assortment of books.

Book publishers like Fahasa, Tiki, Cuu Duc, Tra Publishing House, Tong Hop, Nha Nam, Thaihabooks and Lac Viet will be contributing to make the occasion a success.

Besides reading, people will be able to participate in talks with well-known personalities such as Pham Phuong Thao, former Chairwoman of the HCMC People's Council; designer Sy Hoang; Ton Nu Thi Ninh, ex-Ambassador of Vietnam to the EU; Global Integration Business Consultant President Pham Phu Ngoc Trai; and Ha Than, director of Lac Viet Company.

The Book Reading Festival will kick off with a series of cultural events to be held at the Youth Cultural House, Women’s House and other Cultural Centers across the City.
