Flyovers not reduce traffic jam in Tan Son Nhat Airport areas

Some flyovers have been opened to traffic recently to reduce traffic jam in streets leading to Tan Son Nhat International Aiport area but they have fallen short of expectations in HCMC.

The flyover in Truong Son street was opened to traffic over a month ago. However, traffic grildlock has not reduced. It has been smooth on the flyover but congested at the intersection under.
Truong Son street has been clear in the lane from the airport to Hoang Van Thu Park. Still traffic starts slowing when traveling near Lang Cha Ca flyover and snarls up at the flyover.
In the reserve direction, traffic congestion regularly occurs from Hoang Van Thu street to Truong Son, Bach Dang and Hong Ha streets.
Urban Traffic Management Zone 1 said that in the upcoming time the Department of Transport will expand Hoang Hoa Tham street and Cong Hoa street near Lang Cha Ca flyover to solve the issue. In short term, police force should be supplemented to quickly handle traffic jam reasons such as engine breakdowns and accidents.
Similarly, traffic is clear on Hoang Minh Giam-Nguyen Thai Son flyover branch but chaos under the flyover.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung, diretor of Urban Traffic Management Zone 3 said that during peak hours in the morning, people from Districts 12, Thu Duc and Go Vap stream to the center of the city to work, causing dense trafic density in Nguyen Kiem, Pham Van Dong streets in the direction to Gia Dinh Park. Still vehicles are not crowded in the reseve direction.
Zone 3 will urgently start work on a flyover branch from Nguyen Kiem to Hoang Minh Giam street for vehicles from Go Vap disrict to travel to the center area. It is expected to complete in October this year. Another branch from Nguyen Kiem to Nguyen Thai Son street will also be done at the end of this year.
According to requirment by the Ministry of Defense, Air Division 370 will remove 50 kiosks and three filling stations in defense land outside Tan Son Nhat Aiport which locate at the corner of Truong Chinh and Cong Hoa street and Truong Chinh and Pham Van Bach streets, Tan Binh to hand over to Tan Binh district.
Division 370 has asked relevant sides and kiosk owners to clear the site and hande over the premise from August 25. As of August 22, Sai Gon Giai Phong reporters found that only the filling station of Lung Lo Construction Company under the Defense Ministry has halted opreation but yet been removed.
Kiosks selling ornamental fish and plants were still busily operating. Sellers there said that Division 370 have rented the land pierce out since 1975 to some people who then sublet the area to others.
Director of the Department of Transport Bui Xuan Cuong said that after the Defense Ministry required the division to hand over the land pierce, the city People’s Committe has tasked Tan Binh to study a proposal to expand Truong Chinh street.
However, the district People’s Committee has just received information from Division 370 that they will hand over the land pierce. The two sides have yet to officially work together about that.
Most of reclaimed area from the 50 kiosks and three filling stations locate in the second metro route Ben Thanh-Tham Luong. The remaining area will be used for building a park or planting trees.
