The Vietnam General Labor Union (GLU) and the Ho Chi Minh City Fund to support workers January 5 announced an offer of free bus tickets for cash-strapped employees to return to their hometowns for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays in February.
GLU’s Labor Golden Fund and the City Fund said the program would distribute 500 free tickets to workers who cannot afford the traditional journey home to reunite with their families.
The free travel offer will be reserved for those from areas recently hit by severe storms and floods in the central provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and the northern province of Thanh Hoa.
Workers must provide forms documenting their family’s financial circumstances, photocopies of identification, and a reference letter from their employer. Documentation should be submitted to the HCMC Fund headquarters at 72/5F Tran Quoc Toan, District 3, HCMC.
Applications will be accepted from January 6-22 and tickets will be distributed on January 31.
