Germany to Lend US$300 Million for Metro Routing in HCMC

The German government will lend Ho Chi Minh City US$300 million to help upgrade metro routes inside the city, said German ambassador to Viet Nam Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortch during a talk with HCMC Chairman Le Hoang Quan on Wednesday.

The diplomat said the German parliament has approved the US$300-million interest-free loan for the imports of metro coaches and other facilities.

Weber-Lortch also announced the German Reconstruction and Development Bank will arrive in HCMC next week for detailed negotiations and the leaders of Siemens group will come on December 17 to discuss the deal.

HCMC People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan said the city is determined to finish metro routing within three or four years to deal with its irritating and economically obstructive congestion problems.
