HCMC approves two bridges in Thanh Da Island

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved a proposal by the Department of Transport to task Bitexco Group to build two bridges connecting Binh Quoi-Thanh Da Island with District 2 and Thu Duc, said that department on Saturday.

Binh Quoi-Thu Duc 2 Bridge will link Binh Quoi-Thanh Da urban area up to Road 23, Hiep Binh Chanh Ward, Thu Duc District and Binh Quoi-Rach Chiec Bridge will connect the island with District 2.

According to plan, the 426 hectare island will have six bridges comprising two existing Kinh Thanh Da and Kinh 2, two bridges in this project and two others.

The island will develop into a crowded eco urban area with tourist services and commercial and technological centers. Local population will triple now to hit 45,000.

All canals will be kept untouched except Ong Ngu canal that will be broadened to take water from Saigon River to other small canals in the island, creating a waterway system among residential areas for development of yacht and water taxi services.

Of the total area, 25 hectares will be for resettlement with apartments and land plots. All 58 riverside hectares in the eastern part of the island will be for villas

Apartment blocks, office buildings, service and commercial centers will concentrate in the center of the island.
