HCMC citizens mainly contributors in new rural development plan

Citizens have provided VND 33 for each Vietnamese dong spent by the state on the New Rural Development Plan in HCMC, said Nguyen Van Dua, deputy standing secretary of the city’s Party Committee & Head of the city steering committee, at a conference on March 30

The conference’s aim was the review the plan for 2013 and the two years of the HCMC Citizens Join Hands for New Rural Development campaign.

Traffic system in the outskirts of the city could not be built without assistance from 8,000 households giving up 84 hectares of land.

The state paid VND3.3 trillion out of VND14.5 trillion on the infrastructure system. Total capital for agricultural development was about VND7.4 trillion, which the state provided VND187 billion. Rest of the cost was paid by residents and banks.

Mr. Dua proposed authorities to promote the role of citizens for the plan. He would like to see authorities assist in developing cooperative economic models, continue training courses, and pay attention to the education system.

HCMC successfully launched a pilot program of the plan in six communes and is continuing to campaign it in the remaining 50 communes.
On the same day, the city awarded 17 households for donating their land for the plan. The city also awarded 25 teams and 17 groups for excellent performances in the program.

The conference was attended by HCMC Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai, leaders from the city People’s Committee, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam.
