HCMC gives VND950,000 to low-income families on Tet

People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City decided to give VND950,000 (US$42.2) for each poor family on Tet holidays ( Lunar New Year). Total 650,000 gifts will be given on this occasion.

In addition, the city will give VND2.6 million to 755 veterans, intellectuals, Vietnamese heroic mothers and seriously wounded and sick soldiers, and soldiers infected with Agent Orange. Around 1,900 other wounded soldiers, heroes of the people's armed forces and labor heroes will receive gifts worth VND1.4 million each.

Over 261,000 other families in serving the cause of the nation’s revolution will be offered gifts worth VND1.06 million (US$47.7) each. 115 needy families who children stationed in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and the marine platform DK1 will be granted gifts worth VND1.5 million each.

The city authority will also offer gifts worth VND950,000 to over 59,000 low-income families each. 79,500 senior people who are 80 year old up and over 44,600 poor residents will also receive gifts. 194,300 state employees will be given gifts worth VND1.2 million each and staffs in SOS Village in Go Vap District who take care of orphans and disabled children.

On the occasion, the municipal Party, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee will hold meetings with participation of senior veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers, intellectuals and scientists. Additionally, the delegations will visit senior veterans, old revolutionary units, ethnic minority families, drug rehabilitation centers and social houses.
