HCMC honors 100 outstanding entrepreneurs

Ho Chi Minh City Union of Business Associations yesterday hosted a ceremony to celebrate the 10th Vietnam Entrepreneur Day--October 13 and honor 100 outstanding entrepreneurs in 2014.

The ceremony was attended by permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Vo Van Thuong, Chairwoman of the City People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Deputy Chairman of the City People’s Committee Tat Thanh Cang and over 500 representatives from companies and business associations in the city.

Deputy Chairman Cang appreciated contributions by business community to the city’s socio-economic development. HCMC at present has over 100,000 companies and 250,000 production and trading establishments.

At the ceremony, the city People’s Committee offered certificates of merits to 10 companies, which have actively participated in the union’s activities and achieved the title of exemplary enterprises and entrepreneurs for many consecutive years.

According to the HCMC Union of Business Associations, revenue earned by the 100 honored enterprises reached VND465 trillion (US$21.91 billion) in 2013 and the first half this year, accounting for 26.5 percent of the city’s total.

They yielded a profit of VND22 trillion, submitted the State Budget VND28 trillion, provided over 77,000 jobs and donated more than VND329 billion for charity.
