HCMC Party Secretary welcomes Myanmar, Lao delegates

Le Thanh Hai, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, on May 26 welcomed a high ranking delegation led by U Myint Swe, governor of Yangon region, and U Hla Myint, mayor of Yangon, on their special visit to Vietnam.

Secretary Hai congratulated the people of Myanmar on their achievements and new course of renovation, especially the recent development in Yangon region.

Authorities of HCMC in Vietnam and Yangon region in Myanmar have agreed to bolster trade and economic cooperation between the two localities and countries.

Mr. Hai highlighted the relationship between HCMC and Yangon, saying that the visit would be used to discuss the implementation of various signed agreements.

Meanwhile, Le Hoang Quan, mayor of HCMC, said the City and Yangon have huge potential for expanding ties in economics, trade, tourism, culture, education and healthcare.

Around 170 businesses from HCMC will attend the Yangon Investment and Trade Fair in the near future, he added.

On his part, U Myint Swe said that his delegation would explore investment opportunities and seek partners in the city.

He took the occasion to invite HCMC businesses to further conduct a market research in Yangon region.

At a separate reception, secretary Hai received Khamhouang Heuangvongsy, Party Committee Secretary cum Head of Administration of Houaphan Province in Laos.

Mr. Hai highlighted the efforts of the people and authorities of Houaphan Province, one of the poorest provinces in Laos, for overcoming difficulties and carrying out socio-economic tasks to raise the living standards in the province.
