HCMC Red Cross Society honors exemplary people in charity activities

On the occasion of establishment celebration of Vietnam's Red Cross Society, the society in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday held a meeting to honor 69 exemplary people in charity activities.

They include individuals and organization which greatly contributed to social charity activities last year. Last year, total amount of VND324 billion (US$14,422,434) was used for supporting needy people, beneficiaries of top social welfare, patients suffering fatal diseases, Agent Orange victims, students from low-income families having good achievement in studies, and victims of natural disasters.

In the meeting, the red cross society in HCMC launched the program " Tet holidays for poor residents and Agent Orange victims". The program received initially over VND20 billion (US$890,273)
