HCMC resolves to rehabilitate beggars

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs reviewed on July 8, the workings of the two year plan No.2606/QĐ-UBND by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to solve the menace of beggars in the city until the year 2010.

During the past two years, the Department has gathered nearly 7,500 beggars into a society support center, re-established around 2,450 of them back into their homes and helped 1,100 with jobs training.

The department intends to continue with its 3-6 months vocational training programs until 2015 (sewing, automobile repair, household appliance repair, computer skills) so as to rehabilitate the beggars and help them to find a stable means of income when they return to their homes.
