This amount is worth VND819 billion (US$38.9 million), according to HCMC Power Corporation on February 28. About 696,000 households and thousands of businesses from 24 districts registered in the power saving program.

Households in the savings program reduced electricity use an hour per week and switched to energy-saving lighting and solar-powered water heaters. Streetlights were also turned off along several streets.

About 822 manufacturing companies are reducing consumption power during peak hours and nearly 1,000 service companies set air conditioners from 25 degrees Celsius.

The program will continue in the city this year.
